HUNTER SAFETY EDUCATION

  • You must take hunter safety if you were born after
    January 1, 1960.
  • A hunter safety certificate or previous hunting license is required to purchase any Michigan Hunting License.
  • Hunters anticipating an out-of-state hunting trip need to obtain a certificate prior to their trip, most states require hunters to carry their certificate when hunting and need it to purchase a license.


Lost Safety Certificates


The Hunter safety course is NOT the equivalent of specific gun safety course and does NOT meet the requirements for Concealed Weapons permits. Please visit the Michigan State Police Web site for information on Concealed Weapons Permits.

INTERNATIONAL BOW EDUCATION PROGRAM (IBEP)

  • Is required to purchase archery permits in many other states. Contact the IBEP at: 616-874-8778 or visit their Web site at www.ibepmi.org.

SNOWMOBILE SAFETY EDUCATION

  • A person who is at least 12 but less than 17 years of age operating a snowmobile without direct supervision of a person 21 years of age or older must have in their immediate possession a valid snowmobile safety certificate.
  • A person who is at least 12 but less than 17 years of age may not cross a highway or street without having a valid snowmobile safety certificate in their immediate possession.

BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION

  • A person who is 12 but less than 14 may operate a personal watercraft if he or she obtained a boating safety certificate before January 1, 1999.
  • Persons born after December 31, 1978 shall not operate a personal watercraft unless they obtain a boating safety certificate.
  • The operators of a personal watercraft must carry their boating safety certificate and display it upon the demand of a peace officer.

ORV SAFETY EDUCATION

ORV Safety Education Classes are now administered by the Department of Natural Resources. The drop down box above now contains the option to search for an ORV safety class in available areas.
