The Shiawassee NWR boundary was originally digitized in UTM, Zone 16. It was then converted to Albers, the projection chosen by USFWS to allow concurrent display of all USFWS boundaries for the state of Michigan.

The Seney NWR boundary was created by Refuge staff and was originally digitized in SPC, NAD27. It was converted to Albers, the projection chosen by USFWS to allow concurrent display of all USFWS boundaries for the state of Michigan.

The island refuges were created under contract by the University of Minnesota (U of M). U of M have been contracted to develop the boundary data for the USFWS and have access to the USFWS Realty records for this purpose. No metadata has been completed for this set of boundaries. The original islands data sets were digitized in either UTM Zone 16 or UTM Zone 17, NAD83. The files were converted to Albers, the projection chosen by USFWS to allow concurrent display of all USFWS boundaries for the state of Michigan.
