Abstract: Forest Service ownership. This layer will be replaced when the Automated Lands Project (ALP) is implemented. ALP will provide lands status information, as required by law.
Purpose: This layer is a representation of current ownership. It was not created with the same level of accuracy as ALP, it is NOT a status atlas.
Supplemental Information: The data for this coverage was derived from the 1:24,000 1989 CFFs (Cartographic Feature Files).

Each Ottawa National Forest District was given a check-plot to review in the spring of 1998. Key individuals that have worked on this coverage include: Gayle Sironen, Joanne Miller, Lelie Holmes, Terry DeMuri, Sharon Laabs, Larry Mellstrom, Joel Enking, Jen Dahlbacka, Marilyn Nevins, and Mary Zelinski.

CFFs meet National Map Accuracy Standards which require that 90 percent of all well-defined features be shown on the map within .02 inches of their true location. At the PBS scale of 1:24,000 this represents 40 feet on the ground. Features added on-screen by hand do not meet these accuracy standards. Right-of-ways shown on the ownership layer are questionable as to their existence and location.

Process Description:
Cartographic Feature File (CCF) arcs were corrected and supplimented using the following sources: A list of quad errors created after the 1989 quadrangle printing, completed purchases and exchanges, and comparison with the status atlas. Wherever possible, lines were brought in from the existing cff layer. Other lines were drawn on the screen by hand using the on-screen measuring tool.
