Abstract:

Hydro electric power producing dams within the state of Michigan, derived form the MDNR Fisheries Division's MFINS database. This data set was produced as part of a project between the MDNR's SIRC Unit and Fisheries Division. The data is stored in a vector format and is available in an ArcInfo coverage. Data is in the Michigan Georef coordinate system.

Purpose:

This data was developed for the MDNR Fisheries Division Federal Energy Regulation Commission Unit for the purpose of management of the hydro-electric power producing dams in the state of Michigan.

Supplemental_Information:

This data set was derived form a query of the MDNR MFINS Database. The Dams were then spatially adjusted using the USGS DRG's as a background.

The accuracy of certain fields was assessed in great detail. The other fields were not assessed. The reviewed fields are as follows: POND_NAME, DAM_NAME, and POP_NAME. These fields were reviewed by multiple SIRC members and members of the MDNR Fisheries Division FERC Unit.

Accuracy is limited by the digital representation of the Digital Rastor Graphics images that have a resolution of 1:24,000 scale. At times, it is impossible to determine where the actual dam is located within the hydro power complex.
