Lease Classification recommendations for MDNR-owned land, compiled and mapped at quarter-quarter section level, based on parcel data in MDNR's Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS). Includes number of parcels within the quarter-quarter section, and number of parcels within each recommended lease classification (development, development with restrictions, non-development and non-leasable).
Purpose: Regional land management and planning, at quarter-quarter section level; not intended for parcel-based use.
Supplemental Information:
Lease Classification files are in an ArcView shapefile format, with one shapefile for the entire state. Associated attribute table includes: number of state-owned parcels, number of parcels within each classification, and a classification description for each quarter-quarter section.

This data set reflects all parcels in LOTS that have a lease classification recommendation and Town/Range/Section/Qtr-Qtr geography associated to them. Not all state-owned parcels have a classification recommendation. In general, the following parcels may not be reflected in this data set, because they do not have associated geography in LOTS: Private Claims and parcels within the City of Detroit and/or Saint Clair Flats. This data set may not reflect some parcels that fall on government lots, are within Indian Reservation Land, and/or within some State Parks, due to the omission of these areas from the quarter-quarter section coverage.

Individual parcel information is compiled to the quarter-quarter section level. Accuracy of the quarter-quarter sections is as follows: Section lines have an accuracy of +/- 23 meters, based on horizontal accuracy of the DNR's MIRIS (Michigan Resource Inventory System) base from which the section lines were derived. Interior grid lines represent the result of a model based on survey methods used to establish the quarter/quarter grid. That is, starting from the south section line and measuring 1320 feet north for each east-west quarter/quarter line. Starting from the east section line and measuring 1320 feet west for each north-south quarter/quarter line. Corrections to non-standard sections were made to the northern most row and western most column of quarter/quarter sections.

Weekly download of several tables from the Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS) DB2 tables. Parcel and lease classification information from LOTS is processed to create a table of lease classification recommendations compiled to quarter-quarter section. Lease classification table is joined with RMAP quarter-quarter section file, and processed in ArcView to create a Lease Classification shapefile for each county.

This data set may not reflect some parcels that fall on government lots, are within Indian Reservation Land, and/or within some State Parks, due to the omission of these areas from the quarter-quarter section coverage.

Individual parcel information is compiled to the quarter-quarter section level. Accuracy of the quarter-quarter sections is as follows: Section lines have an accuracy of +/- 23 meters, based on horizontal accuracy of the DNR's MIRIS (Michigan Resource Inventory System) base from which the section lines were derived. Interior grid lines represent the result of a model based on survey methods used to establish the quarter/quarter grid. That is, starting from the south section line and measuring 1320 feet north for each east-west quarter/quarter line. Starting from the east section line and measuring 1320 feet west for each north-south quarter/quarter line. Corrections to non-standard sections were made to the northern most row and western most column of quarter/quarter sections.

A count of the number of leases within a QQS is included, as there may be more than one lease in effect in a quarter-quarter section.

This data set reflects all current mineral lease nominations in the MDNR's Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS). This data set may not reflect some parcels that fall on government lots, are within Indian Reservation Land, and/or within some State Parks, due to the omission of these areas from the quarter-quarter section coverage.

Individual parcel information is compiled to the quarter-quarter section level. Accuracy of the quarter-quarter sections is as follows: Section lines have an accuracy of +/- 23 meters, based on horizontal accuracy of the DNR's MIRIS (Michigan Resource Inventory System) base from which the section lines were derived. Interior grid lines represent the result of a model based on survey methods used to establish the quarter/quarter grid. That is, starting from the south section line and measuring 1320 feet north for each east-west quarter/quarter line. Starting from the east section line and measuring 1320 feet west for each north-south quarter/quarter line. Corrections to non-standard sections were made to the northern most row and western most column of quarter/quarter sections.

Weekly download of several tables from the Land Ownership Tracking System (LOTS) DB2 tables. Parcel and lease nomination information from LOTS is processed to create a table of nominated parcels compiled to quarter-quarter section. Nomination table is joined with RMAP quarter-quarter section file, and processed in ArcView to create a Nominations shapefile for each county. A count of the number of nominated parcels within a QQS is included.
